Preparing Herbs for Use
“The power of herbs is great... and there is no place on earth where grass does not grow”
Zhud-shi - a monument of medieval Tibetan culture
More than 20,000 plant species grow in Russia and the CIS countries, more than 2,500 of which have medicinal properties. Official medicine uses about 240 species.
In order for herbs to retain their strength, that is, to have the maximum pharmacological effect, you need to know: how, when and where they need to be collected, dried and stored. The rules for collecting medicinal plants have always been given great attention.
For the production of medicinal products, our company uses herbs, roots, seeds and fruits grown and collected in ecologically clean areas of Siberia, the Far East, Altai and Krasnodar Territories, Leningrad and Pskov regions, far from railways and highways, outside factory areas.
We pay special attention to suppliers of medicinal herbal raw materials, choosing the most conscientious ones, and regularly conduct their audits. Each batch of medicinal plant raw materials is accompanied by a quality certificate and a certificate of origin and processing of raw materials.
Each medicinal plant contains one or more active substances that can exhibit certain medicinal properties in the human body. The accumulation of biologically active substances in the plant organism occurs in its various parts and during certain periods of its development. Therefore, in the manufacture of our products, either the entire plant is used, or only some of its parts: for some it is flowers, for others it is leaves, for others it is roots, for others it is the entire aerial part, etc. The quantity and quality of nutrients contained in raw materials, depend on the stage of growth and development of the plant. For this reason, the collection of medicinal plants is carried out at the moment of the highest content of active substances. If the collection is carried out at the wrong time, then it is possible to harvest plants that will contain the smallest amount of active compounds, which is why their value will be insignificant.
Timely and correctly collected raw materials of medicinal plants must undergo the next important stage of procurement - drying. The preservation of the healing properties of plants largely depends on compliance with drying rules. Drying methods and conditions are different and depend on the type of raw material, the content and group of active substances in it, the amount of moisture, etc. Drying is complete if the soft parts of the plant (leaves and flowers) are easily ground into powder, the roots, bark and rhizomes do not bend, but break with a bang, the fruits and berries, when squeezed in the hand, do not stick together into a lump and do not smear.
Taking into account the high requirements for the quality of pharmaceutical products, incoming medicinal plant raw materials undergo incoming quality control for all indicators, including microbiological and radiation purity.
Medicinal herbal raw materials are stored in a warehouse in fabric or paper bags at optimal temperature and humidity to maintain quality throughout the shelf life. Separate storage is organized not only for different types of plants, but also for different parts of the same plant.
Compliance with the rules and control of all stages - from the moment of growing a plant to the manufacture of a medicine from it - allows us to be confident in the quality and safety of our products.
