Streptocide is an antimicrobial bacteriostatic agent. The mechanism of action is due to competitive antagonism with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and inhibition of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthetase, which leads to disruption of the synthesis of dihydrofolic and then tetrahydrofolic acid and, as a result, to disruption of the synthesis of nucleic acids of microorganisms. Activity is manifested against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
As part of complex therapy: purulent wounds, infected burns (I-II degrees) and other purulent-inflammatory processes of the skin.
Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides. Pregnancy, breastfeeding period. Diseases of the hematopoietic system, inhibition of bone marrow hematopoiesis, anemia, thyrotoxicosis, chronic heart failure, renal failure, azotemia, porphyria, liver failure, congenital deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase.
Children under 3 years of age.
Contraindicated for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Externally, applied directly to the affected surface; dressings are carried out after 1-2 days. The maximum single dose for adults is 5 g, the maximum daily dose is 15 g. For children over 3 years of age: a single dose is 300 mg, a daily dose is 300 mg.
If there is no improvement after treatment, you should consult a doctor. Use the drug only according to the method of use and in the doses indicated in the instructions. If necessary, please consult your doctor before using the medicine.
If you are hypersensitive to sulfonamide drugs, allergic reactions are possible, the development of which requires immediate discontinuation of the drug.
In addition, possible: headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, cyanosis, leukopenia, agranulocytosis, crystalluria.
If any of the side effects listed in the instructions get worse or if any other side effects not listed in the instructions are noticed, tell your doctor.
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, intestinal colic, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, depression, fainting, confusion, blurred vision, fever, hematuria, crystalluria; with prolonged overdose – thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, megaloblastic anemia, jaundice.
Treatment: drink plenty of fluids; in case of accidental ingestion, gastric lavage.
Myelotoxic drugs increase the manifestations of hematotoxicity of the drug.
If you are taking other medications (including over-the-counter medications), consult your doctor before using Streptocid.
During therapy, it is recommended to drink plenty of alkaline fluids. If necessary, antimicrobial drugs are prescribed orally. During long-term treatment, systematic monitoring of blood counts, liver and kidney function is recommended.
Studies of the effect of the drug on the reaction rate when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms have not been conducted.
Considering the side effects of the drug (dizziness), caution should be exercised when driving vehicles or machinery.
